St. Patrick’s Day Crochet Fun! FREE Pattern!

Anyone with Irish roots? Or that just loves all things Irish? St. Patrick’s Day is coming right up!!  I have been working on some little items I think you will like. This little crochet set is fun for St. Patrick’s Day! The little pot can be filled with treats, and the coaster adds a rainbow to fit the theme. The shamrock is cute by itself, but can be used in a garland, on a hair clip or on a lapel pin. And the hat is tiny – it can be a little ornament, or added to a headband and worn!

The first crochet item is a Rainbow Coaster. It can be used traditionally to go under glasses and protect furniture, or it can be used as a fun mat for the pot of gold because rainbows, pots of gold and leprechauns all go together! I did use rainbow colours for this coaster, but it could be done in different colours as well. You can probably see that my coaster was not blocked – I was being lazy – it does lay nice and flat if blocked. The edging around the coaster is the crab stitch or reverse single crochet. Moogly has a good tutorial on how to do this stitch.

And of course you need the pot of gold! This is just a nice small size – perfect for some sweet treats! I filled mine with some yummy yellow jelly beans, and my kids were quite thrilled with them. Candy is not a treat they get very often.

The shamrock is probably my favourite! It is a very simple little project, but is really sweet and can be used in so many different ways. The shamrock can be just for decoration, or you can make a garland out of it. It also makes a really cute hair accessory! You can put a bobby pin through the middle and use it like that (that is what I did in the picture), or you can sew a clip onto the back of it. You can also make the shamrock larger or smaller depending on the size of hook you use.

And the little leprechaun’s hat is fun! It is very small, so can be a little decoration if you like, or you can add it to a headband or hair clip and wear it on St. Patrick’s Day! My girls like this one best!

If you are interested in this pattern, it is FREE!! I don’t often have patterns free, but will try to have more like this one. Rather than writing the whole pattern here, here is the the ravelry link to my St. Patrick’s Day Crochet Fun so you can add it to your library or print it out. I find that easier than trying to scroll through a blog post!

If you are interested in other patterns I have written, you can check out ravlery, or my etsy shop Five Snowflakes Designs.

I hope this little set adds a touch of magic to you day, and that you enjoy making it up!
