Reusable Water Balloons Pattern and GIVEAWAY!

I can’t believe that 3 weeks of summer vacation have already disappeared! And I don’t know about everyone else, but we have had a very hot summer here in Medicine Hat!! That means that we need a way to stay nice and cool in the sunshine…. And these Reusable Water Balloons work very well for that 🙂

These water balloons are crocheted from a thick, squishy yarn, which makes them basically like big sponges. To use them, you just get them wet, throw and repeat for hours of fun! There are no little pieces of plastic to pick up, and you don’t need to keep buying more, which make them a great addition to summer fun and games. Some people have asked if these hurt when thrown, but we tested them all out, and my children didn’t think it was much different than being hit with a regular water balloon. Like any toy that is thrown, you never want to throw at the head/face.

Soak reusable water balloons in kiddie pool and have fun throwing!

I know there are many patterns for basic water balloons to crochet, in the shape of regular water balloons, but my kids wanted something a little bit more fun! So I worked up 2 different sets that they are very happy with.

The first set is the Fruit Fight Reusable Water Balloons Pattern! Waaaay more fun to throw fruit around, no? This set includes an orange, a pineapple, an apple, and a cluster of grapes.  The pineapple seems to be the most popular fruit in our house!

The second set is the Flower Power Reusable Water Balloons Pattern. Everyone likes flowers, and they can be made up in so many different colours! This set includes a rose, a begonia, a chrysanthemum, and a carnation. The favourite flower here is the chrysanthemum because it is the softest and squishiest!

These sets are fairly quick to crochet, and a lot of fun. The fruit set uses a 9.0 mm hook, the flower set uses an 8.0 mm hook, and both patterns uses Bernat Blanket yarn. We are rather limited with colour selection here, but you can probably find colours you like to make these up.  I also like to use the Bernat Blanket Stripes – 4 colours for the price of one!

The Flower set can be made in many different colours!

The fruit set I did try to keep the typical colours, but you could change it up!

These reusable water balloons are pretty easy to take care of too. When finished using, it is best to squeeze out as much water as possible and then let them air dry in the sun. I would not leave them in the sunshine too long though, as it likely will fade the colours. And if the water balloons need a cleaning, just pop them in the washing machine! I would let them air dry rather than putting them in the dryer.

These patterns can be found on Ravelry or Etsy, and there is a giveaway for a copy of each pattern! If you would like a chance to win these 2 patterns, please click on the “entry form” link below, and follow the directions!
